IMU Rare Diseases Research Club Hosts Movie Night Event

27.11.2022

As Istanbul Medeniyet University Rare Diseases Research Club, an event called the Rare Diseases Themed Movie Night was organized with the aim of attracting students' interest in rare diseases and increasing awareness. A total of 41 students attended the event, where they watched the documentary film titled "The Elephant Man" with a large audience at our university's Aşıkpaşa Conference Hall on the evening of November 25, 2022. This impactful film aimed to shed light on the rare disease known as Elephant Man disease and provide detailed information about the disease to the viewers.

As part of the event, students not only acquired theoretical knowledge about the disease but also had the opportunity to observe the daily challenges and struggles of individuals living with this disease up close. This experience allowed participants to enhance their empathy skills and approach individuals with rare diseases in society with a more sensitive perspective.

Throughout the event, participants were treated to popcorn and various beverages, creating a pleasant atmosphere. In this relaxed and friendly atmosphere, students engaged in in-depth discussions about the disease both while watching the film and afterward, facilitating knowledge exchange.

Additionally, a raffle was organized during the event, and valuable prizes such as free language courses were awarded to the winners. This way, participants not only increased awareness about rare diseases but also raised awareness about access to educational opportunities.

The event organized by Istanbul Medeniyet University Rare Diseases Research Club contributes to raising awareness about rare diseases in society and fostering more conscious individuals in the fields of healthy living and quality education.
