Rare Diseases Symposium Held on 6 April 2019

Istanbul Medeniyet University Rare Diseases Research Club organized another fruitful event on April 6, 2019. This year, rare diseases in Pediatric Neurology was the subject of the third of the symposium series. Supervised by Assoc. Prof. Elif OĞUZ of the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, the Symposium was attended by students and patients from various faculties and departments.

The symposium started with speeches delivered by Prof. Dr. Mustafa TAŞDEMİR, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Mustafa SAMASTI, and Ramazan Melih PARLAK, President of the Club, and a presentation by Çağla BÜTÜNBAŞ, symposium coordinator.

Attending Physician Selgin BİBER, Assoc. Prof. Serhat GÜLER, and Asst. Prof. Elif YÜKSEL KARATOPRAK provided the participants with information about rare diseases.

Next, a panel was held on the policies and actions about Rare Diseases. The panel was moderated by Prof. Dr. Melih BULUT and the speakers included Dilay DURUÇALI, Beyza ÖZUZCAN, Lecturer Merve Deniz PAK, Lecturer Özgür İNCE, and Derya KÖKER.

The panel was followed by a presentation delivered by Asst. Prof. Cihan AYDIN on genetic approaches in the treatment of rare diseases.

Awards were presented to the top three students in the painting contest on Rare Diseases from the Eyes of Children held among secondary school students.
